Many people are saying that this is how American police officers should handle knife wielding suspects.
A video has gone viral overnight showing a Thai police officer hugging a man with a knife. Reports state that the 45-year-old man walked into a police station with the knife because he was stressed out after not being paid for a few days:
“He used to be a musician but had been working as a security guard for three days and had not been paid. On top of this he had had his guitar stolen and it was all stressing him out.”
People all over the internet are reposting the video with titles like “how American police should be,” or “why police need more deescalation training”.
While deescalation training is great in certain situations, this officer could have easily been stabbed to death. Does the 21 foot rule not apply in other parts of the world?
It’s great that no-one was hurt in the video, the officer must have had a read on the guy or maybe even knew him. Another reason he didn’t pull his gun is because he may not have one. In the video, it appears that he isn’t even armed.
*Viewer Discretion* The second part of the video shows Nicaraguan police trying to hug a man with a knife and it doesn’t end well.
