Estill police officer Quincy Smith captured every detail of his 2016 shooting on his body camera.
On New Years Day 2016 Officer Quincy Smith with the Estill police department responded to call of a suspicious person. Reports stated that a black male was snatching groceries out of peoples hands and causing a disturbance. As Officer Smith arrived on scene, he saw a man walking away who matched the description given by dispatch.
He ordered the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Malcom Orr, to stop walking away so they could talk. Smith told Orr he was going to get Tased if he didn’t take his hand out of his pocket.
Without warning, Orr pulled out a handgun and shot at the officer eight times. Officer Smith was shot four times. He was shot two times while lying on the ground. The suspects rounds hit him in the arms and the neck.
Officer Smith can be heard in the video telling dispatch “tell my family that I love them.” Miraculously, he survived the shooting.
Malcom Orr was recently convicted of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime. He has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.
