An incident involving Merced Police is going viral on Twitter. But does the 58-second video show us what really happened?
On Saturday night in Merced, California, a release party for a clothing line was being thrown at a local hookah bar. The party was scheduled to run from 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. At around 12:50 p.m., two to four police officers showed up looking for a person with active warrants.
Merced police officers went into the club to find their suspect and were surrounded by people. Someone punched one of the officers in the head, seriously injuring them. Officials state that this officer will be put on medical leave.
“That’s when the officer was blind-sided, punched in the face. Several people punched officers and our guys became surrounded by the crowd.”
That’s when backup was called to the chaotic scene and the filming starts. In the video below, people can be seen arguing with the officers. Several officers have their tasers pulled. Some officers have their firearms out and one even has a 40mm launcher.
